Mr. Prince Cherry Patton, Sr. Prince Cherry Patton, Sr. was born April 24, 1946 in Madison County to the late Erskine Patton and the late Virgie Mae Scruggs Patton. He departed this life on August 23, 2024.

He accepted Christ as a young man and was baptized in the Flint River where he became a member of the Meridianville Bottom P. B. Church under the leadership of Reverend Willie B. Graham.

Prince attended Farmers Capitol School as a child. He began his career in the Janitorial Department at Huntsville Utilities. He went on to acquire various certifications through the Apprenticeship Program. Prince was a dedicated and faithful employee throughout his tenure. After more than 30 years of employment he retired as one of the Supervisors, with the Natural Gas Department.

His favorite pastimes were building barrel grills, barbecuing and making his famous “Red Vinegar Sauce.”  He attributed these skills to his late uncle, Jell Scruggs. He would often reminisce about the time he spent with him during his youth.

Prince was married to the late Alma Anderson Patton on December 23, 1971. To this union three children were born:  Ed, Jackie and Prince, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife and two sons: Edward Patton and Cedric Corn; brothers: Jell, Gilbert, Herman and Erskine Patton; sisters-in law: Melvinia Patton and Lily Patton; as well as one niece and three nephews.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his beloved children:  Jacquelynn Patton and Prince C. Patton, Jr, both of Huntsville, AL; Barrett Corn (Christal) of Meridianville, AL; Cassandra Whitman, of Madison, AL; Angela Sanders (Carlton) of Nashville, TN; and Karen Humphrey-Bone (Joshua) of Smyrna, TN; sister, Betty Douglas-Smith of Huntsville, AL; brother, Joe Earl Patton (Veronica) of Ardmore, TN; sister-in-law, Sandra Patton of Huntsville, AL; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Saint Mark Baptist Church (6475 Moores Mill Rd, Huntsville, AL 35811). Interment will be in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Mr. Patton will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

Public viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 and 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Royal Funeral Home.
