Marvin G. Charleston, age 85, of Tuscumbia, passed away on Monday, July 08, 2024, at his residence.
Marv was born on Tuesday, August 30, 1938, to Gilman & Doris Charleston of Dows, Iowa. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa. He was hard working man, who had a natural talent for wood working, carpentry, and construction. He was a perfectionist in his work and loved building additions to homes. He built a 50’ houseboat which he enjoyed floating down the river from Iowa to Guntersville, AL. He was very popular and admired by so many people for his ability to build and remodel. He enjoyed boating, camping, and was a Big-Time Alabama fan. He will be missed by all who know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilman & Doris (Reingardt) Charleston, and sister, Ruby Sandy.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 43-1/2 years, Linda Lou Swinney Charleston; his son, Marv Charleston, Jr. (Lisa); stepchildren, Carlton Daniel Craig, LouAnn Crane; grandchildren, Whitney Grantham, Savannah Charleston, Sophia Charleston, Candace Frederick, Megan Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kashton Anderson, Weston Anderson, June Frederick, Jace Frederick, Joseph Frederick; sister, Jenenne White; and several nieces & nephews.
The time of visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Clint Frederick officiating the service. The burial will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Randy Self, Doug Hargett, Kimmy Dale Isbell, Tommy Beard, Wesley Beard, Bradly Anderson, and Clint Frederick.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many doctors and nurses who have cared for Marvin along the way. We especially want to thank Celia Hargett (our home health Nurse) who has become like family with her love and care and for being there the last couple of years to help us.
