William "Butch" Fly Profile PhotoWilliam “Butch” Fly, 73, of Oakland, passed from this life Sunday, June 30, 2024, at his home.

He was born June 19, 1951, in Memphis, son of the late William Houston Fly, Sr. and Aileene Duke Carlson, living most of his life in Shelby County and the last 30 years in Oakland. He was a retired truck driver for UPS, working 27 years and served in the US Marines. He loved to fish and camp, target shoot,and go boating. He enjoyed the beach but loved his family and God above all. His family states that he was alot of fun and a very strong man. He was an avid photographer and deeply cared for his dog “Jake”. Mr. Fly was Baptist in faith.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Janet Fly; a son, Kevin Fly (Andrea) of Oakland; a daughter, Carol Arnold (Jason) of Jackson; a brother, Steve Fly of Memphis; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Peyton Hart (Kayla), Hayden Fly, Hannah Brooke Fly and Rylee Arnold; and a great granddaughter, Dixie Hart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Houston Fly in 1989, a brother, Joseph Fly and a sister, Cindy Carlson. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the Gideons International.
