Lyndon “Don” Maurice Martin Jr., age 72, of Tuscaloosa, formerly of Haleyville, entered into rest on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born November 19, 1940 in Russellville, Alabama, and was a long time resident of Haleyville, Alabama. He was a 1959 graduate of Haleyville High School and a 1965 graduate of The University of Alabama. Mr. Martin taught Math and Science at Haleyville Junior High School and at Lynn High School. After retirement, he drove a truck and enjoyed traveling all over the United States. Don was a wonderful an avid Alabama football fan and he loved animals. He was a wonderful, compassionate and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and church deacon.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 7-9pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 11am. Reverend Kramer Mize will officiate. Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Brown Martin; son, Lyndon Martin III and his wife Rita Norris Martin and he was “Pepaw” to five grandchildren, Adam C. Martin, Shaina “Boo” Thomas, Alex C. Martin and one step-grandson, Michael Smallwood. Also, survived by a former special daughter-in-law, Anna Harbison; sister, Susan Holcomb; brother-in-law, John Brown; niece, Heidi Gail; nephews, Andrew, James, David, William and John Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyndon Maurice Martin Sr. and Willie Gail Lindsey Martin and a brother Donald Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made in memory of Lyndon “Don” Maurice Martin Jr. to one of the following organizations: Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35404, The Humane Society, The University of Alabama Scholarship Fund or University of North Alabama Scholarship Fund.
Pallbearers will be Adam Martin, Alex Martin, Anthony Harbison, Andrew Harbison and Robert Mobley.
