Today, we celebrate the home going for our loved one, Sameyetta Byrd. She was born to the late Albert Pride, Sr. and Mable Sirleete Pride February 20, 1941 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was the ninth of eleven children.Sameyetta confessed Christ at an early age. She graduated from William Hooper Council in 1959 in Huntsville, Alabama. She received her Master’s and Doctorate of Theology from Word of Truth Seminary. She retired from Redstone Arsenal in 1993 after 21 years of Federal service. She was a member of The Rock Family Worship Center where she served faithfully until death.

Safely in his arms, she passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013. Sameyetta was married to Jack Byrd, SGM (Ret) for 53 years. To that union was born two daughters, Katrina Byrd and Sabrina Caldwell. While she loved her daughters, Sameyetta enjoyed spoiling her two granddaughters: Taylor Simone Caldwell and Tori Nichole Caldwell. She spent many days caring for, holding, and loving her grandchildren. During her life, she touched many people in a very special way. She was affectionately known as “Sister” by her siblings. Her personality allowed her to influence and inspire many people.

Sameyetta has gone home to be with the Lord and other family members who preceded her in death: her father, Albert Pride, Sr., mother, Mable Sirleete (Davison) Pride; four brothers: Albert Pride, Jr., Milton Pride, James E. Pride, Thomas N. Pride (Bubba) and three sisters: Hattie Brooks, Gladys Corn and Elma Louise Mabry.

Sameyetta’s life on earth is over, but memories of her will be cherished by her husband, Jack Byrd of Huntsville, Alabama; two daughters: Katrina Byrd of Madison, Alabama and Sabrina Caldwell (Demetrius) of Harvest, Alabama; two grandchildren: Taylor Caldwell and Tori Caldwell, Harvest, Alabama; two sisters: Irene Pride Hines and Eva Lee Jackson of Huntsville, Alabama; one brother; Richard Allen Pride (Ada) of Huntsville, Alabama; one sister-in-law: Mary Alice George of Grovetown, Georgia; two brothers-in-law: James Byrd of Evans, Georgia and Otis Brooks of Huntsville, AL. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at The Rock Family Worship Center (2300 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, AL 35801) with Minister Dave Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Valhalla Memory Gardens.
