Rudy Barraza, 84, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Rudy was born in Mesilla, NM and attended New Mexico State University. He Joined the Von Braun rocket team in 1949 and moved to Huntsville in 1950. His career in the space program spanned 35 years.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for over 50 years and was involved in many church and civic volunteer organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma L. Barraza; sons, Michael R. Barraza (Bonnie) of Waverly, and Louis G. Barraza (Jill) of Huntsville; daughters, Susan L. Barraza of Huntsville, and Barbara A. Winn (Danny) of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren, Lindsey Barraza, Shannon Barraza, Evan Barraza, Christopher Barraza, Charisse Winn and Maurice Sacoman; great-grandson, Cade Luck; brother, Benjamin Barraza (Martha) of Huntsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Cove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
