Mary Joanna (Parker) Wood, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care.
She was born March 6, 1931 in Fairfield, AL to James Willis and Jessie G. (Brintle) Parker. She married Clyde Jackson Wood, Sr. on March 23, 1951 in columbus, MS. She served as a pastor’s wife, army wife, and mother of five children. While living in Rainsville, AL, she volunteered and served on the library board. She loved to read and wanted everyone to have access to books. She was a long time member of Flint River Baptist Church in Hazel Green.
Mary is survived by her children, Rebecca Johnson, Diana Hinds (Jack), Karen Ethridge (Terry), Clyde “Jack” Wood, Jr. (Judy), Beth Anne Eller (Doug); seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Huntsville Hospital 6th floor staff, Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care, and Merrill Gardens staff for all the care that they provided to her and the family.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Berryhill funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. Internment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
