Margaret Willis Comer Epperson, age 91, passed away October 16th after an extended illness. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ and served as head librarian for both Heritage Christian University and Mars Hill Bible School. She was a graduate of Coffee High School, Harding College, and earned an M.S. degree from Alabama A&M University.
She is still beloved for introducing children and adults to reading through her literacy education work. Margaret was one of the original members of the Shoals Community Theatre and performed in productions of “The Miracle Worker” and “The Glass Menagerie.” Margaret loved to travel, particularly to the Caribbean, where she and her husband Jack performed missionary work. Margaret loved entertaining, dressing up, and games of Scrabble with the whole family.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Jack D. Epperson and Gerald E. Comer, her son Edward Epperson, her stepson Jack Epperson Jr, her mother Rubye Cope Willis, and her father Gilbert W. Willis.
She is survived by her children Robert Skipworth (Karen) Comer and Elaine Comer (Robert) Shay, grandchildren John Robert Comer, Christopher Shay, Lydia Comer, Meghan Shay, and Rachel Comer, her brother David (Gladys) Willis and nieces Diana (Tony) Barton, Susanna (Elliot) Kreigh, and Cheri (Dorian) Flynn.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Lilly Flowers, Margaret’s hospice nurse, and her amazing caregivers, Stella Roberson, Della Foret, and Brenda Hill whose dedication and loving care was an extraordinary blessing.
