Fred W. Hays, Jr., 71 of Athens, passed away on Sunday, August 6th, 2023, at his residence. Mr. Hays was born on May 5th, 1952, in Decatur, to Fred William Hays and Ruby Murphy Hays.
Mr. Hays is survived by his brother Johnny Hays (Vickie); nephews Skylar Hays (Haley), Landon Hays (Haley), and Collin Hays (Shaina); great nieces and nephews Sadie Hays, Barron Hays, Murphy Jane Hays, Bristol Hays, Brooklyn Hays, John Marshall Hays, and John Luke Hays.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents George B. & Ruby Lindsay Murphy and John & Edna Hays; and great-nephew Levi Hays.
A graveside service for Mr. Hays will be Thursday, August 10th, 2023, at 4:00pm at Limestone Memorial Gardens, with Brian Murphy and Henry Carter officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:30-3:30pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Landon Hays, Skyler Hays, Collin Hays, Elliot Murphy, Billy Cannon, and Joe Cannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Murphy, Reitzel Murphy, and Mike Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Hays memory to Hospice of North Alabama.
Mr. Hays was a faithful member of Tanner Church of Christ. He enjoyed music and dearly loved his family. He was such a joy to be around. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
