Mary Alice Dison, our precious Mother and Mamaw, gained her heavenly wings on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023. She was at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 19th, 1937, in Athens. She was 86 years old.
Mrs. Dison is survived by her children Etta Crosby, Bobby Dison (Debbie), Jeannie Wright (Jimmy), Darlene Craig, Ginger Dison, and James Dison (Teresa); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brothers Jerry Freeman (Janet) and Bill Freeman (Shirley); sisters Debbie White (Larry), Brenda Posey (Johnny), and Sue Stacey.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Dison; sons Danny Dison and George Dison; daughter Janie Wiley; and grandchildren Jonathan Dison, Jessica Nixon, and David Simpson.
Mamaw has an extra large family: 9 children, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces & nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mamaw dearly loved her grandchildren and always made them feel extremely loved without question. Up until a couple of years ago, she would call each family member and tell them “Happy birthday” with a laugh!
Mamaw is the Rock and the Matriarch of this Family. Family was her occupation. Everyone that came in contact with her had the utmost respect, and everyone called her Mamaw. She has the most precious heart and soul, but make no mistake, she would “get you if needed.” She loved, loved her “Find A Word” puzzle books and watching Perry Mason. Another love of hers was her snuff. Oh, you didn’t want Mamaw to be without that and she could probably win a spitting contest! She loved cooking for her family and all gathering on Sundays on that hill. She was everyone’s Mamaw.
The family thanks Hospice of Limestone County during this difficult time.
