Sharon Kay Vest passed away on Monday July 3rd, 2023, at the age of 73 with her loving husband and family by her side. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Hays Smith, mother and stepfather, Ann and John Blalock, aunt, Kathleen Wyman, brother-in-law, Jim Kirkland, and her oldest son, Chad Morris.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thomas “Tommy” William Vest; son, Patrick Morris (Fran); daughter-in-law, Terri Morris; great-uncle, Charles Wyman; brother, Terry Smith (Tina); sister, Susan Kirkland; grandchildren, Jake Morris (Elizabeth), Caroline Morris, Hudson Morris, Harrison Morris, and Jacob Bartlett; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A lifelong native of Huntsville, Kay was born November 4, 1949. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1967, after which she went to work as a secretary for numerous legal firms before settling in as the Office Administrator for the Child Support Division at the Madison County District Attorney office. She would remain there, eventually retiring after more than 25 years of service. During that time, she served as an officer for the State of Alabama District Attorneys Secretary Association, where she stayed connected to her fellow officers, colleagues, and co-workers – attending lunches years after they had all retired. She attended Valley United Methodist Church as a member and avid volunteer for over 40 years, giving her time at numerous vacation Bible schools, nursery shifts, Emmaus Walks, Youth Leader, and any other task the church needed.

After being friends for a while she married Tommy in 1980 and for 43 years together they built a home of love and faith.

Not only a loving wife, but also mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great aunt, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her – known affectionately as Kay or Nana. She loved to spend time with her family – hosting holiday meals, game nights, and attending every sporting event, band/choir concert, and any other activities her kids or grandkids were involved in. She loved to cook and was a member of the Vestavia Estates Homemakers Club. A fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide as well as a studious fantasy football player, who, after attending church on Sundays, could be found watching NFL games and calling or texting her opponent for the week to make sure they were keeping up with the scores.

She was talented in so many ways. She could draw, was an amazing cook, could play music, and used to love to dance. She would stay up late watching old movies and go shopping with her sister at estate sales to search for old things and make them new again. She was kind, supportive, generous, loving, and will be dearly missed by all who know and love her.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 9 a.m. with the Revs. Wren Clanton and Sammy Gilbreath officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Sharon Kay Vest to Valley United Methodist Church, Huntsville, AL 35802.
