Melba Norris Maxwell Melba Norris Maxwell departed this life on Sunday June 18 th , at the age of 85. She
was born on August 27,1937 in Townley, Alabama, to Toney Oakley and Nina
Johnson Norris.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Janet Marie Maxwell.
She was also preceded by her siblings Earl Dean Norris, Demopolis AL; Mildred
Norris Beach, Tampa FL; Bobbie Norris Posey, Jasper AL; and Billie Norris
Andrews, Jacksonville, AL.
She is survived by her son Dr. Phillip Gerard Maxwell of Decatur, Alabama; and
her sister Cleste Brazdale of Kerrville, TX and Marvin Gene Norris of Jasper,
Alabama and her many nieces and nephews.
She was a very dedicated, loving mother of great faith. Anyone that knew her
would feel the “Love of God” that she possessed. Her outlook on life was always
positive and she encouraged everyone around her to do the same. She was a
member of Central Baptish Church. Melba loved her church, her family, and her
many friends. She enjoyed tennis and Alabama football but most of all spending
time with family.
A visitation for Melba will be held Saturday July 8,2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
at Shelton’s Funeral Home, Decatur, AL; followed by a celebration of life service at
2:00 PM.
A special thank you from the family to the Angels who cared for Mom during her
fight with dementia: Starla Vickery, Aleshia Hill, Laura Willey, Regina Reding, Emily Tindell, and
Carol Brown.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations to be made to Decatur Senior
Center.
