On Sunday June 25, 2023, Neva Lorena Miles Chandler, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 99.

Neva was born on March 31,1924 in Lauderdale County, Alabama, to John Henry Miles and Rachel Bevis Miles. She attended Lagrange School and then Central High School. She married Henry Herbert Chandler in 1942, and they had four children. When her children began school, Neva attended business college and worked for many years as the office manager for the Carter-Floyd-Chapel women’s clinic in Florence. When her husband retired from Reynold’s, they enjoyed several years in Winter Haven, Florida.

Neva had a passion for beautiful flowers, crochet, Braves baseball, estate sales, and a little rose garden that she tended and loved. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for her family as long as she could. She cherished all of her family and was delighted with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed remaining close with all of her siblings through the years and treasured each one of them and their families.

Neva was a member of Cross Point Church of Christ and loved attending church as long as she could. She was an avid gospel music lover and was elated at having her church friends come and sing for her in her home, which they generously did many times in her later years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rachel Miles; husband of 63 years, Herbert Chandler; sons, Lloyd (Martha) Chandler and Barry Chandler; daughter, Edith (Johnny) Brown; grandson, John Brown; brothers, Owen (Edith Helen) Miles, Sonny (Margaret) Miles, and Virgil (Mertice) Miles; sisters, Ruth (Horace) Sewell and Beulah (Arthur Lee) Canerdy.

She is survived by her brother, Clifford (Helen) Miles; son, Bobby Chandler; daughter-in-law, Martha Chandler; granddaughters, Laurie (Gilbert) Brown-Velasquez and Leah Chandler; grandsons, Justin (Kaydee) Chandler, Chris Chandler, and Roger (Kristy) Brown; great-grandsons, Jake Chandler, Ty Chandler, and Luke Chandler; great-granddaughter, Darby Chandler; and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and other special family and friends.

Neva was a loving, caring, generous, witty, and beautiful Christian lady. She left many words of wisdom with her family that will be forever etched in their hearts.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Dr. Ricky Irons and all of his office staff for many years of excellent medical care; her friends at Cross Point Church of Christ; the staff of Green Oaks Inn; the staff of Hospice of North Alabama; and special friend, Leann Scott.

A funeral service will be held at Colbert Memorial Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, with burial to follow in the Colbert Memorial Gardens. Ministers Frank Mills and Ellis Coats will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Point Church of Christ.
