Cecelia Gloria Tompkins, 81, of Tuscumbia, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023. Visitation will be Monday, June 19th, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia with the funeral service following at 3:00 in the funeral home chapel with Father Benny Karimalikkal officiating. The burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Cecelia was a native of Bristol, Rhode Island, and a longtime resident of Tuscumbia. She graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1959 and Northwest Shoals Community College where she finished first in her class in 1979. Cecelia worked as an LPN at ECM Hospital for 25 years and was a member of Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church.
Cecelia maintained an active life doting on her grandchildren and traveling to attend the many sporting events, recitals, graduations, and other milestones. She was especially excited to have been able to see them all together at Gabriel’s wedding in May. At home, her passion was gardening her flower bed and backyard vegetables.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Preston Tompkins, Jr; parents, Anthony Francis, Sr and Delia Oliver Francis; and siblings, Anthony “Sonny” Francis, Joseph “Buddy” Francis, Raymond Francis, and Rosemarie Francis Nelson.
Cecelia is survived by her children, Bill Tompkins (Patti), Toni Sandrell (Tim), and Paul Tompkins (Liz); brother, John Paul Francis (Mary); grandchildren, Will, John, and Meg Tompkins, Gabriel McAnalley (Jordan), and Sam and Jake Tompkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
