James “Randall” McElyea, of Athens, passed away May 20th, 2023, after a long battle with health issues.
He was born August 17th, 1948, to Clint and Aileen (Bridges) McElyea. Randall graduated from Clements High School in 1966. He retired from Monsanto/Solutia after thirty years. Randall enjoyed traveling with our friends, Alabama football, and guns. He loved his dogs Gizmo and Molly.
Randall is preceded in death by his parents and sister Karen. He is survived by his wife Cynthia Keenum McElyea; daughter Jennifer (Josh) Hamilton; grandchildren Kendall, Arden, Tanner, and Talli Hamilton; daughter Amy Mahathy Rutherford; grandchildren Clint, and Katie Rutherford; great-grandchildren Crimson, August, Layla, and one angel; son Israel Mahathy; grandchildren Jessica, Haley, Lexie, and Christian Mahathy; great-grandchildren Willow and Landen; sisters Betty Tidwell, Joyce Tucker, Barbara Swanner, and Agatha McElyea; brother Phillip McElyea (Tina); nephews Les, Jeff, Jason, Brad, John, Jeremiah, Johnathan, and Jacob; and niece Pariane.
A Graveside services for Mr. McElyea will be Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Dement Cemetery, with Bro. Jerry Smith officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 23rd, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Dement Cemetery.
