Agnes “Ag” Jonakin Thomas, 82, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully on April 10, 2023. She was born in New Madrid, Missouri on October 13, 1940, to Lynn Jonakin and Laura Lee Hunter Jonakin. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1958 and was united in marriage to Walter Ronald Thomas for 47 years. Together they raised their daughters, Elizabeth and Katherine.

After a rewarding 45-year career at NASA, including being a recipient of the Silver Snoopy Award, Ag retired and was able to focus on what she was truly passionate about, her family. She loved her daily talks with her daughters and looked forward to the family reunions that brought her brother and sisters together from all over the country. Together they would enjoy long days of laughter and retelling stories of their childhood. She enjoyed reading, participating in the local garden club, as well as volunteering at Harrison Brothers General Store in downtown Huntsville.

Ag is survived by her children, Elizabeth Tidwell (Patrick) of Madison and Katherine Hendrickson (Joe) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Luke Tidwell, Jake Tidwell, Christopher Hendrickson, and Natalie Hendrickson; siblings, Laura Lynnette Hurt of New Madrid, MO; Judith Lee Jonakin Miller of Jenkintown, PA; John Shapley Jonakin of Jacksonville, AL; and Mary Anne Jonakin Wylie of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Laura Lee Jonakin and her husband, Walter Ronald Thomas.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville, Alabama. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. with Reverend Jose Amabooken officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, in Huntsville, following the service.
