Sarah Ruth Reid McMinn, age 91, passed away peacefully in Huntsville on April 1, 2023. Sarah was born on January 23, 1932, in Henderson, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband Travis J. McMinn Sr., parents, Gordon and Archie Belle Reid and sisters, Mary Emma Vernon and Martha Belle Casey.

Sarah would enjoy her childhood and teen years growing up in Henderson, Tennessee. She attended the Church of Christ in Henderson, setting the foundation for her love and devotion to the Lord and a lifetime of helping others. She was her high school Salutatorian, loved to write poetry, dance, and participate in activities with her many childhood friends. Sarah met the love of her life, Travis, in Henderson and would later be married in 1949, and remain so for nearly 70 years.

After settling in Huntsville in 1955, she and Travis would raise their family here. Sarah would enjoy sewing beautiful clothes for her daughters when they were young. Sarah was a great hostess and enjoyed entertaining guests in her home. She was heavily involved in church and community events, and at one time President of the Terrace Woods Women’s Club.

Sarah enjoyed camping and water skiing with her family. She also enjoyed singing hymns with family, playing cards, and traveling. Sarah was a talented quilter, hand quilting many beautiful quilts. She was a gifted painter as well. She won first place in art shows and produced numerous beautiful paintings, still enjoyed by so many today. Sarah was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoyed researching her family genealogy.

Sarah was a devoted Christian and member of Twickenham Church of Christ. She worked tirelessly with many ministries in the Church: teaching Sunday school, serving Meals on Wheels, assisting with the clothing ministry, and visiting the sick. She enjoyed fellowship with so many wonderful friends from the church.

Sarah is survived by her children, Rebecca Ann McMinn Barron (Delton), Jenny Lee McMinn Wong, and Travis J. McMinn Jr. (Dana); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Lincoln Smith officiating. Entombment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care.
