Timothy “Tim” Hugh Carson, 60, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on February 22, 2023. Tim was born on May 18, 1962, to Hugh and Roberta Carson in Huntsville, Alabama. After graduating from J.O. Johnson High School in 1980, Tim joined the US Navy and served on the USS Arthur W. Radford (a Spruance-class destroyer out of Norfolk, VA) from 1982 through 1986. During his active duty, the Arthur W. Radford took several Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Panamanian support cruises and exercises with the 6th fleet. In September 1983, the Arthur W. Radford returned to the waters off Beirut to conduct gunfire support against forces threatening the peacekeeping mission.

Tim returned home and completed his Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting at Athens State University and went on to work for NASA Procurement as a Contract Specialist. Tim retired from NASA after 32 years of service.

In 2002, Tim met Sarah Ann Greer Woodbury and they were married in July 2006. In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball, NASCAR, hockey, and participated in re-enactments with the Sons of Confederate Veterans where he was a commander of Egbert J. Jones, Camp No. 357, Division of Huntsville, Alabama. Tim was a lifelong avid Alabama Crimson Tide supporter.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Hugh C. Carson, his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Hallie Powers of Danville, VA, step-grandmother, Bessie Williams Powers, and his paternal grandparents, Wade and Mae Carson of Danville, VA.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Ann Carson of Huntsville, AL; his stepdaughter, Sherry Sharp (Kevin) of Hazel Green, AL; step-grandchildren, Dustin Sharp (Ivey), Rebecca Pinder (Chase), and Cody Sharp; his stepson, Thomas Woodbury; mother, Roberta P. Carson; brother, Jeff Carson (Gayle) of Enterprise, AL; sisters, Daphne Minshew (Mark) of Fayetteville, TN and Becky Caneer (Art) of Huntsville, AL; and several nieces and nephews, Shannon Brown (Jeremy) of Jacksonville, AL, Stephanie Owens (Matthew) of Enterprise, AL, Bethany Minshew of Huntsville, AL, Matthew Minshew of Fayetteville, TN, Daniel Caneer (Brooke) of Simpsonville, SC, Hallie Taylor (James) of Huntsville, AL, and Caroline McCormick (Jamie) of Birmingham, AL; and many other great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with a memorial service immediately following in the chapel.
