He later worked for Drummond Company as coal miner and UMWA member for 23 years.
He loved to fish and garden throughout his life, which he continued into his retirement when he was focused on spending time with his grandchildren.
Billy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Betty Steele Uptain; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Dana Uptain; two grandchildren, Alexi Brooklyn Uptain and Carson Christopher James Uptain; brother, Leon Uptain; sister Christine Wade, and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Our family heartily extends a special thanks to Hannah Coons and the nurses and caregivers at Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care you provided for Billy.
In accordance with his wishes, no visitation is planned. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 13th, 2023 at North Oakhill Cemetery in Jasper. Rev. Hollis Alexander will officiate.
