Richard Holland Gilliam Jr., 96, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. Mr. Gilliam was a native Huntsvillian and attended Huntsville High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Tulane University and Auburn University, receiving a degree in agriculture. He then moved to Maysville, where he began a career in farming, which continued until he retired. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Kelly Gilliam, and his brother, Thomas Allen Gilliam. Survivors include his children, Richard Holland Gilliam III, Karen Kelly Gilliam Andress (Randal), and David Allen Gilliam (Tanya); grandchildren, John Richard Andress (Katie), and Kelly Carpenter Andress; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Grace Andress, Lucy Gabrielle Andress, and Eloise Kate Andress.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 2 at Maple Hill Cemetery.
