MUSCLE SHOALS-On Monday, January 30 Michael Smith with Colbert County EMA and Corporal Ping with the Alabama Law Enforcement Marine Division held a press conference concerning the missing fisherman from Saturdays boat accident.

According to Smith the accident occurred around 11:20 AM on Saturday.  A boat with two fishermen struck a bridge piling near TVA’s Rockpile Boat Ramp on Pickwick Lake where the boat capsized and the two fishermen were thrown overboard. The younger of the two has been rescued and a search for the 63-year-old man continues today.

According to ALEA Corporal Ping they are concentrating on the bottom of the lake due to the swift currents and the cold water temperatures (50 degrees) this morning.  There are at least eight agencies looking for the fisherman including ALEA Marine and Aviation. The crash occurred near McFarland Park in Florence and the search will be done on a grid pattern with ariel support.

Ping also said that the mission is never just a recovery mission and hope is never given up.
