Robert Alvin Griffin Jr. “Pete”, a proud veteran of the Navy, passed away January 25, 2023 in Gadsden at the age of 97 years. The son of Alvin and Inez Ware Griffin, Robert Griffin Jr. grew up in Ashland, Alabama. He was born July 14, 1925 in Ashland and graduated from Clay County High School. At the age of 17, He enlisted in the Navy. He valued this service highly; he served on the USS Copahee CVE-12 while stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. His honors include Asiatic Pacific Metal with Bronze Star, American Theater Metal, and the World War II Victory Metal. Pete Spent many years working in the logging industry and was owner of Mohawk Logging. In his retirement years, Enjoyed working his Brangus and Angus cattle operation for many years. He loved worshiping and spending time with his church family. He enjoyed his Tuesday trips to the stockyard with dear friend Melvin Watts and his long visits with dear friend Al Lindsey. He was a lifelong Alabama fan. “Roll Tide”.

He was preceded in death by parents, Alvin and Inez Griffin; three sisters: Margaret Strickland, Elizabeth Latham, and Mary Frances Griffin; and four brothers: Bill, Charlie, Harold, and Jerry.

Robert Alvin Griffin Jr. is survived by his wife of 43 years, Katherine Griffin of Lincoln; two daughters: Kay Gurley of Talladega and Gay Hurst (Pat) of Lineville; son: Mitch Griffin (Shasta) of Lincoln; two sisters: Ann McKay and Janice Jenkins; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Griffin Hill, Adam Robertson, Mason Hill, Mark Rooks, Clay Rooks, Heath Mattox, and B.J. Isbell.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Sprayberry, Bill Wilkerson, Kennan Aimee, and Mr. Griffin’s Nephews.

The Rev. Mark Kytan and Rev. Pat Hurst will officiate services honoring the life of Robert Griffin Jr. which will be held at Concord Baptist Church in Lineville, AL on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. His visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Burial with Military Honors will take place at the Clay County Memory Gardens in Ashland, Al.
