Jean Rene’ Olivier, 88, died Wednesday, January 11, 2023, in Madison, Alabama. He was born March 18,1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Henry Olivier, Shreveport, Louisiana. He is survived by his son, Stephen Rene’ Olivier of Huntsville; daughter, Susan Olivier Fikes (Harlow) of Athens, Alabama; granddaughter, Anna Leigh Fikes; grandsons, Cody Rene’ Olivier (Samantha) and Andrew Scott Fikes. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Johnson Olivier; and his sons, David Paul Olivier and David Scott Olivier.

Jean attended Mississippi State University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1956. He worked for two years with Chrysler in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Huntsville where he enjoyed a wonderful 42 year career at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. He worked on many projects, and two of his most notable accomplishments were the assignments of Chief Engineer of Hubble Space Telescope and Deputy Manager of Chandra X-Ray Observatory. Jean was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where he served on many important committees including being chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home Sunday, January 15th, at 1:00 p.m. with the service following at 2:00 p.m in the chapel. The Olivier Family would like to thank the kind, dedicated caregivers at Merrill Gardens and Madison Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Table or the Epworth United Methodist Church of Huntsville.
