William Towrey Ware

William Towrey Ware, 87, realized the promises of his strong faith and met his Creator on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 from NMMC. Towrey as he was known by his siblings and “POP” by his children and grandchildren was born in Troy, Pontotoc Co. on April 18, 1935 to the late Thomas Darrell Ware and Kathleen King Ware. He graduated Algoma High, attended Clarke College in Newton and received his BA in Preaching from Blue Mountian College in Tippah County. He spent much of his working life with Braniff Airlines and retired from American Airlines where he was Supervisor of the Cargo Department. He lived in New Orleans, Lubbock, Nashville and Memphis while employed by the Airlines but had resided in Okolona for many years. Bro. Towrey was an ordained Baptist minister and did supply work and evangelism primarily. He was a faithful member and deacon First Baptist Church-Okolona for many years where he served as a teacher and member/treasurer of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. Towrey loved to tinker in his shop taking all kinds of “things” apart and putting them back together. An avid reader and student esp. of the Bible and Biblical literature, he was a learned man whose life was not lived in vain. He will be missed!

A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 PM Thursday, January 12, 2023 from Holland Funeral Directors-Okolona Chapel with his pastor, Rev. Dr. Randy Lewman officiating. Private burial will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 PM-service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ware is survived by his wife, Margaret Turner Ware of Okolona; his son, Buddy Mims (Krisha) and daughter, Nita Mims Morgan (Tim) all of Tupelo; 5 grandchildren, Maggie Ellis Weathers (Garry) of Pontotoc, Wade Ellis (Brooke) of Okolona, Addie Grace Mims, Mitchell Wren and Lacy Kate Mims all of Tupelo; 8 great grandchildren, Wesley, Paisley, Presley, Peyson, Waylen, Wyatt, Garry Allen and Brayden; his siblings, Burton Ware(Shirley), Nancy Tucker(George), Frances Jernigan(Jerry), Ray Ware(Judy) and Joe Ware(Linda); his brothers-in law, Harold Turner of Okolona, Ray Turner (Mazelle) of Okolona; his sister-in-law, Patsy Stevens(Bud) of Wren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Kathleen King Ware; his son, Marc Aston Mims; his siblings TK Ware, John Charles Ware; his sisters-in-law, Nettie Ware, Charlene Ware and Lois Turner and his niece Marie Fortenberry.

Pallbearers are Jud Jernigan, Bubba Jernigan, Ben Tucker, Joh Allen Ware, Al Rayburn, Tim Sheffield, Wesley May, Rick Flynt and Ridge Flynt. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his First Baptist Okolona- Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
