Roger Dale Winkler Roger Dale Winkler, age 78 of Quinton, passed away on January 9, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 6 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Burial will be at West Jefferson Freewill Cemetery. Chad Stillwell will officiate.

Roger was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America, having worked 35 1/2 years at various mines-Maxine, Bessie, Mary Lee II and Shoal Creek. He was very proud to have been part of the restoration of the former West Jefferson High School where he graduated in 1963. Roger loved sports. He coached and played softball well into his 50’s. Even in his late 70’s he loved to trick you into a game of horseshoes or cornhole- and he absolutely loved the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He is survived by his Wife-Mickie Bennett Winkler; Daughter-Roxanne Winkler Gibson; Son-in-law-Mike Gibson; Granddaughter-Melody Jordan Thomas; Grandson-Judd Thomas; Granddaughter-in-law- Alex Thomas; Sisters-Sue Dill and Ann Herron; A host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Daughter-Melody Leigh Winkler; Brothers-Jimmy and Robert Winkler; Parents-Fred and Hazel Winkler; In-Laws-Dudley and Aubrey Bennett.

Pallbearers will be Danny Jackson, Gary Bryant, Judd Thomas; Mike Gibson, Scott Davis, and Wes Davis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Minor, Bob Davis, Bill Kilgore, Edward Griffith, and Andy Filyaw.
