William R. “Bob” Adams, 80, of Huntsville, died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

A Texas rancher’s foster son, he went from riding a horse to elementary school to helping put a man on the moon. After volunteering to serve in the Korean War, then completing a degree at Texas A&M, he married his high school sweetheart and joined NASA, where he eventually became a senior program manager. Bob contributed to the Saturn 1B, Apollo, Apollo-Soyuz, Skylab, and Shuttle programs, but his greatest pride was his work on the Lunar Rover.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy L. Adams; son, Robert Scott Adams; daughter, Julianna “Julie” A. Hinckley, and her husband, Scott.
He will be interred in a family cemetery in his hometown of Cameron, Texas, during a private service.
