Mrs. Cynthia Catron Newton, 93, of Bridgeport, AL, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Cynthia was born September 25, 1929 in South Pittsburg, TN. Her family moved to Dorans Cove, Bridgeport, AL. She attended Mount Carmel Elementary, Bridgeport Middle and High School, graduated in 1948 from City High School in Chattanooga. She attended Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, majoring in Early Childhood Education and was voted Belle of the Engineer’s Ball.
While living in Chattanooga, Cynthia was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church. She taught kindergarten at Central Baptist Church, now Abba’s House, in Hixson and taught piano lessons. In retirement, they were active members at Hopewell Baptist Church, and later at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Newton is survived by her son, Garry Dean Newton; daughter, Carla Newton Feeney (Tad); grandsons, Brian A. Newton, J. Andrew (Andy) Newton, step-grandsons Norris T. Feeney, Colin K. Feeney; great grandchildren, Rilea, Joshua and Samuel Newton, Quinn, Ian, and Everett Feeney; nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Augustus Newton (Buddy) who retired from Dupont; parents, Walter Earnest Catron and Johnnie Louise (Ridley); brother, John Oscar Catron; sister, Ella Jean Morrison.
Visitation will be from 1 ~ 2 p.m. Monday, November 21st, at Rudder Funeral Home, Bridgeport, Alabama. Funeral Services begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Rudder Funeral Home Chapel, Bridgeport, with Pastor Josh Myers officiating. Interment will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Bridgeport.
