Jerry Smith Sr, age 76 of Decherd, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born on April 4, 1946, in Cowan to the late Charnel and Georgie (Woodard) Smith. Jerry served in the United States Army before working in the steel industry in Chicago. He then returned to Tennessee and worked for Brockton Soles and Plastics before retiring from Shelbyville Electric. After retirement, Jerry drove a tractor trailer truck for Stan Brown. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed coaching baseball teams in Cowan, fishing, and cheering for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially taking them to the mountains or having pool parties. His family will remember him as a gentle, good man, and the best dad. Jerry attended Estill Springs Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Charlie Wayne Smith; siblings, Charnel Smith Jr, Sharon Imogene Smith, Mary Elenore Payne, and Martha Sue Robinson. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Mary Ann Street Smith; children, Melissa Smith, Jerry Smith Jr, Daphney (Johnny) Martin, Daryl Smith, and Nialayiah Baker; grandchildren, Amber Leigh Whittemore (Cage), Chad (Kirsten) Martin, Haley (Jesse) Goodman, Casey (Katie) Martin, Chelsey (Brian) Bolin, Andrea Smith (Dustin), Karen McGlocklin, Sean McGlocklin Pam McGlocklin, Sarah McGlocklin, Courtney Stacey, and Leighton Stacey; great-grandchildren, Emma Ann Stratton, Landon Jace Stratton, Raylynn, Hudson, Nolan, Beau, Harper Jade, Hallie Jo, and Chayden; siblings, Mike (Portia) Smith, Margaret Ann Pickett, and James Arthur Smith; grandpuppy, Leo; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro.
