Matrel Lane Brooks, age 94, of Guntersville, Alabama passed peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
Matrel was born to parents Archie Moland Lane and Lily Mae Lane of Shelby, North Carolina. She was married to Paul Brooks for 54 years until passing in 2004. Matrel spent 15 years as a military wife before the couple settled in Guntersville in 1965.
Matrel was gifted seamstress, designer and spent many happy years sewing fashions for the public. As a creative, she was an award-winning cake decorator and enjoyed floral arranging, gardening as well as various other crafts. In her later years, she was an avid line-dancer, enjoyed taking trips and cruises with the local senior center, and had a group of fun-loving card players who met weekly at the church for fellowship. She supported the womens ministry at Warrenton United Methodist, the reading program at Guntersville Elementary School, delivered countless meals to people in need and sat beside at nursing homes and hospitals.
Matrel is survived by her children, Steven Mark Brooks (wife Emily) of Guntersville, Dennis Brooks (wife Leslie) of Denton, Texas, Renee Brooks Sheridan (husband Greg) of Cannon City, Colorado and Bobbie Jean Brooks of Huntsville, Alabama. She has 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Shepherds Cove Hospice or Warrenton United Methodist Church for all their loving care of Matrel.
