Astrid Delores Carlson Lahiere, 86, was called away by our Heavenly Father on Friday. She passed with her sons Richard and Julien by her side. Astrid was born to Richard and Sallie Mae Carlson in Mobile, Alabama.

Astrid was an accomplished student. She was Valedictorian of her class at Murphy High School in Mobile. Later, she graduated at the top of her class with a Bachelor of Science degree at Athens State University and earned a Master of Science in management at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Astrid served the U.S. government for 39 years, first as an administrative assistant at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, and later as a Contract Specialist for the U.S. Army in Huntsville. In between, she was a teacher at Evangel School.

In Mobile, Astrid met and married the love of her life, Joseph Louis Lahiere. They met when Joe discovered her after she won a beauty contest in Mobile. Astrid and Joe had two sons, Richard and Julien. Astrid loved her family dearly. Through her words and actions, she taught her sons the importance of leading a Christian life focused on the family. Astrid was the epitome of Southern grace, gentility, and charm. Astrid left a lasting, positive impact on everyone she met. She loved to visit new places with her family, and they have countless memories from their many trips together. She loved to entertain, and treasured her moments with her family, especially her grandchildren. Astrid was a very enthusiastic Christian and was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Astrid is survived by her sons, Richard Joseph Lahiere and Julien Louis Lahiere and his wife, Wendy Jo Lahiere. She is survived by and was affectionally known as GeeGee by her grandchildren, Jamie Katrina Lahiere and John Paul Joseph Lahiere.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at Saint Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
