Nancy Jo Cantrell Stockton Nancy Jo Cantrell Stockton, 80, of Aberdeen, Mississippi and Huntsville, Alabama, passed away in her home on October 1, 2022, after a graceful and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Nancy was born in Greenwood Springs, Mississippi, to Isaac Woodrow Cantrell and Mary Ann Pullen Cantrell and was a near- lifelong resident of Monroe County, MS. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1959 and served 3 terms as the Monroe County Tax Collector from 1995 until her retirement in 2007.

As a young woman, Nancy worked as a bank teller in Aberdeen and traded at Stockton Oil Company. That combination of events led her to meet and marry the love of her life, William L. (Billy) Stockton, Jr., on June 4, 1961, and they were married until his death in 2008. Following Billy’s death, Nancy bravely started a whole new chapter in her life.

After living in Monroe County for more than 70 years, Nancy moved to Mt. Juliet, TN, to be near her sister and cousin, and after three years moved from there to Huntsville to be nearer her children and grandchildren. Huntsville became a new hometown for Nancy. At 75, she settled into life with new and dear friends at the Artisan apartment community and lived happily among them throughout her final days.

Raised in the Church of Christ, Nancy worshipped with the Aberdeen Church of Christ for three decades and spent her last years as a member of the Chase Park Church of Christ in Huntsville, AL.

She leaves behind two daughters, Meg Griffin and husband Keith, Marcia Lindstrom and husband Chuck all of New Market, AL; a son, William L. (Bill) Stockton III, and wife Kim of Birmingham, AL; a sister, Betty Williams and husband Harold, brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Lois Stockton; nine grandchildren and three bonus grandchildren Heather-Lynn and Zeke Burton, Corey, Emily, and Hannah Griffin, Chas and Kinsey Lindstrom and Steve and Kris Lindstrom, Jonathan, Drew and Reed Stockton; 1 great-grandchild, Sloane Kathryn Burton… and a host of family, friends and loved ones – both old and new.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6, at the Chase Park Church of Christ in Huntsville, AL. Visitation will be from 12-2PM and funeral service at 2:00PM.

A visitation will be held in Aberdeen Church of Christ, Friday, October 7 at 11:30AM.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested that any donations be made to the Chase Park Church of Christ Building Fund, Shepherd Center, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
