Joe Carl Baxter Sr, age 91 of Decherd, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born on May 22, 1931 in the Awalt Community to the late Wiley Waggoner and Viola Mae (Rolman) Baxter. Before his retirement, he was employed by the Franklin County School System as a bus driver for fifty-six years and also worked as a farmer. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed bailing hay on the farm and rabbit hunting and enjoyed going on drives and eating out. Joe was a member of Decherd First Baptist Church for over forty years and loved his church family. He loved people and cherished the time spent with his friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Baxter; siblings, A.R. Baxter, Wiley Baxter Jr, Christine Bernard, and Thomas Baxter. Joe is survived by his sons, William F. (Yang) Hoffer of Pennsylvania, Joe Baxter Jr of Decherd, and Jackie (Judy) Baxter of Winchester; very special friend, Betty George, who was such a loving and caring woman to Joe; brother, Harold (Judy) Baxter of Winchester; grandchildren, Randy Hoffer, Michael Hoffer, Daniel C. Hoffer, William J. Hoffer, Damien (Lorien) Baxter, Danae’ Williams, Felicia Baxter, and Jody (Andrea) Hayes; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev.
