James Humphrey James E. Humphrey, age 77, a resident of Beard Road in Santa Fe, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 1:30 PM at Pine Garden Cemetery on Beard Road in Santa Fe with Rick Points officiating. A visitation will also be held on Friday from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

James was born on April 4, 1945, in Santa, Fe, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Elton Humphrey and the late Minnie Mae Himes Humphrey in Santa Fe, Tennessee.

James’s world revolved around hard work. His determined personality got him far in life. From a young age, James ran whiskey for his father during the Prohibition Era. After so much time, he used all his savings to buy his first excavator and that’s how history was made. James had a knack for operating heavy equipment and thoroughly enjoyed making things happen with his own two hands. He was known as “CatMan”, not only because of his talent with operating Caterpillar equipment but also because of the army of cats he cared for.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Annie Himes; niece: Megan Humphrey; and cousins: Robert Humphrey (Lori King), Dianne Bennett, Karen Barnes, and Scott Humphrey.

James is preceded in death by his siblings: Johnny Humphrey, Gerald Humprey, and Bertha Mae Shouse.

Pallbearers are Craig Humphrey, Ricky Montgomery, Frank Turpin, Richard Sudder, Jeff Davis, and Kenny Manire.

In lieu of flowers, please consider all of James’ beloved cats in this time of need by donating cat food.
