Gordon Hamilton Perry died peacefully in his sleep August 29 at his home in Madison, Alabama.

Born December 11, 1934, in Ozark, Ala., Gordon was the sixth child of Katherine Todd and William Thomas Perry’s eight children. He spent his formative years in Lockhart and Florala, Ala. and graduated from Auburn University in 1961 with a mechanical engineering degree on the GI Bill.

Gordon and Patricia Ann Murphy were married in 1962 in Wetumpka, Ala. He worked for Southern Railway but then moved to Huntsville, Ala. later that same year to begin working for Chrysler. He spent 28 years working for the Missile and Space Intelligence Center, retiring in 1994.

A long-time member of First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Gordon was heavily involved in many areas of the church, especially when it came to the coordination and construction of The Living Christmas Tree. His passion was helping anyone in need. From his local work with Lincoln Village Ministry to his building up Perry County, Ala. through Sowing Seeds of Hope to the international mission of P.E.T, he showed the love of Christ to all.

Gordon was preceded in death by one son, James Perry; two sisters, Libba Clark and Sadie Echols; and two brothers, Bill and Oliver Perry. He is survived by his wife, Pat Perry; two brothers, Ned and Milner Perry; one sister, Nita Lewis; one son, Kevin (Chris) Perry; three daughters, Elaine (John) Dickson and Susan and Rebecca Perry; five grandsons, Jeremy (Julie), Christopher (Cassidy), and Patrick (Kate) Dickson and Seth and Zachary (Emily) Perry; and one great-grandson, Mac Dickson.

The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala. on September 4 at 2:30 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m.
