Pamela Jane Mance Thorson, 72, of Big Cove, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022. Mrs. Thorson is survived by her sons, Stewart Thorson and wife, Stephanie, and Blake Thorson; two precious grandchildren whom she referred to as “my loves”, Abby and Ellie Kate Thorson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Grover and Linda Sanders; and several special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thorson was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wayne Thorson; her mother, Mildred Ellett Mance; her father, Fred Mance, Jr.; granddaughter, Olivia Garner Thorson; and aunt, Nelda Willene Ellett.
Mrs. Thorson grew up in the Big Cove community, attended Big Cove School, and graduated from Madison County High School in 1968. She went on to marry the love of her life soon after, and they settled back in Big Cove to raise their family. She continued her education in healthcare at Calhoun Community College and Athens State University. Mrs. Thorson was a career caregiver and registered nurse working most of her years at Fox Army Health Center. She enjoyed many years working with colleagues who became great friends. She was a lifelong member of Big Cove Holiness Church where she faithfully attended surrounded by her church family of devoted friends.
Mrs. Thorson’s greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. Her days were spent seeing after them and cooking their favorite meals as often as she could. She loved to entertain, and everyone loved hanging out at “Lolly’s” house. So many have enjoyed her hospitality over the years, and we would love to honor her one more time. A Going Home Party will be held on Thursday, September 1st from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at her home.
