Julianna Louise McClay, known to all her family and friends as “Judy”, departed this life on August 24, 2022, at age 88. Judy was born August 11, 1934, in Bonne Terre, Missouri to Julius and Amy Hoessli. She married LeRoy McClay June 15, 1955. She is survived by her husband; and daughters, Kimberly McClay (Tom Eagerton) and Kelly McClay (Joe Asaro). Her parents and her brother, Richard preceded her in death.
Judy attended school in Salem Missouri, where she was active in sports, band and was a cheerleader. She earned a scholastic scholarship to the University of Missouri. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama with her family in 1958.
She was very artistic and talented. She enjoyed painting, teaching art, sewing, costume designing, and puppeteering. She was a quilter, homemaker, excellent cook, and avid collector. For many years she dedicated untold hours to Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater and Community Ballet, designing and building costumes for productions. She was also co-owner of a costume business. Many puppets, sets, and performances were created by her for presentation to children. Flower gardening was one of her hobbies, in addition to building miniature room settings.
A memorial service will be announced later.
