Glenna Dee Jones, age 99, joined her heavenly father, Saturday afternoon about 2:30pm.
Glenna was born July 19, 1923 in Mt. Hope, AL the daughter of Paul David McLain and Vivian McLain.
She was educated in Decatur and graduated from Riverside High School. Shortly after graduation she married George Ralph Jones in May of 1942 and they were married 66 years until Ralph’s death in 2008.
She lived a long and productive life. Her involvement with family, Church, and community was a lifelong endeavor. She raised two children, Mike (wife Carol) and a daughter Becky (deceased). She had four grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.
She was involved in her Church at all levels. She taught Sunday School for many years and was song and choir Director at First Bible Church where she was a charter member in 1963. Her advice and council were sought out regularly.
She was involved with the restoration of downtown since the 1970’s when she and Ralph bought several downtown properties and began renovation on them with the idea of bringing downtown back to life.
This was her calling for many years and was ground work for what we see in downtown Decatur now.
Her family will miss her.
Her Church will miss her.
Her community will miss her but Heaven will enjoy her for eternity.
Funeral service will be at First Bible Church, Thursday, August 25, 2022. Visitation at 10:00 with Service following at 11:00 with Steve Bateman officiating.
