The Visitation for Mr. Billy Joe Cantrell, age 71 of Cragford, will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.

Mr. Cantrell passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at the Clay County Nursing Home. Mr. Cantrell, A lifelong resident of Clay County, graduated from Clay County High School, and joined the U.S. Army following his graduation. He served in the military for 4 years, working primarily as a Gunner on the Apache Helicopters during the Vietnam War. Once he returned from his service, he worked as a car salesman, drove a truck for Williamson Trucking, was a Diesel Mechanic for some time, but mostly worked as a General Contractor for most of his life. Outside of work, he enjoyed racing cars, collecting and shooting his guns, and enjoyed listening to rock and roll music.

He is survived by two daughters: Talina Nicole Cribbs (Chad) of Hurst, TX, and Tanya Strickland (Rickey) of Cragford; two sons: Tommy Joe Cantrell (Kerri) of Ashland and Terry Daniel Cantrell (Brooklyn) of Anniston; 11 grandchildren with one on the way; one sister, Melinda Patterson (Norman) of Ashland; five nieces: Jo Anne Brasher (Scott) of Ashland, Christy Shelton (Mike) of Troy, Renee Morris (Richard) of Joplin, MO, Tracy Brown (Jimmy) of Equality, and Michelle Burris of Joplin, MO, plus extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Wilbur Gay Cantrell and Frances Lulene Reeves Cantrell; and one sister, Mary E. McLeroy.

The Family of Mr. Billy Joe Cantrell would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of Dr. Fischer’s office, the staff of Clay County Nursing Home, and the employees of the Clay County Hospital Pharmacy.
