William Charles Mastin of Huntsville passed away at home on June 29, 2022, at the age of 91.
Bill was born in Clanton, Alabama in 1931 and graduated from Chilton County High School.
Upon graduation he enlisted in the USAF and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict.
Bill graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute(Auburn) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Physics in 1958 and earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in 1968. He was a member of one of the first groups of coop students from API to work at Redstone Arsenal. He retired from the NASA Astrionics Lab and subsequently worked at and retired from United Space Boosters. Bill was awarded the prestigious Silver Snoopy Award while at NASA and again at United Space Boosters.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Avoline L. and Walter M. Mastin; and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; sons, Bartley and Brent; daughter, Shannon; and five grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials in memory of Bill can be made to South Huntsville Library, Bailey Cove Road, where he volunteered or to the TV Ministry at First Baptist Church,600 Governors Drive, where he was a member.
