Reese Sanders Butler, 94, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Born January 25, 1928 in Montgomery, Alabama, she was the eldest daughter of Reese and Frank Screws. She married Claude Sanders in 1947, they graduated from Auburn University in 1948, and moved to Huntsville in 1952 as part of the space and rocket program.

Reese was one of the founders of the Huntsville Service Guild and longtime member of the Cosmopolitan Women’s Club.

Serving Christ was her upmost aim in life, which she did well as a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, several terms as president of the WOC, and until her death, an Elder on the Session.

Reese was predeceased by her husband of 37 years, E. Claude Sanders Jr., eldest son, Mark C. Sanders, and her second husband of 30 years, William David Butler.

Survivors include her children, Kathryn S. Berkstresser (Sid) of Young Harris, GA, Frank B. Sanders (Cindy) of Town Creek, AL, Scott J. Sanders (Katie) of Huntsville, and Cindy Butler Hodges (Hugh) of Monteagle, TN; eight granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Due to Covid concerns, a private memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church.
