Funeral services for Mr. Carl E. Smith age 68 of Franklin, Georgia will be held Wednesday June 8, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial with military honors will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.
Mr. Smith passed away June 1, 2022 at Piedmont-Newnan Hospital. He was born in Millington Tennessee, graduated from Millington H.S. and later received his Bachelor’s Degree in history at Auburn University. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy for over 8 years and achieved the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer, was in the VP56 Squadron in Jacksonville, Florida and VP 1 Squadron at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland, and served an Avionics Technician on the P3C Orion Aircraft. Mr. Smith worked over 24 years with American Eagle Airlines and retired from American Airlines as First Officer in the 737 program and later as a Flight Instructor with Flight Safety in Atlanta and later with Fly Right in North Carolina. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Candi D. Smith of Franklin, GA, two sons, Carl E. Smith Jr. of Northport and Brian M. Smith (Elaine) of Ozark, two grandchildren, Camryn D. Smith and Brayden N. Smith, two brothers, Jimmy Smith and Mike Smith (Lisa) both from Monroe, LA, also his father in law and mother in law, Billy and Mary Brewer of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Pershing Smith and Florence Duanne Loflin Smith, his Sister, Beverly Louise Smith, and one brother, Willard Ray Smith.
Visitation will take place Wednesday at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 11:30 until service time at 1:00 P.M.
