John L. Byrd, 93, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. Mr. Byrd served in WWII and retired from General Motors in 1983. He was a member of Madison United Methodist Church, and was a faithful member of Buntyn Presbyterian Church of Memphis, TN for many years. He served in many capacities with the church. Mr. Byrd was an avid golfer, Boy Scout leader, and loved traveling through the 48 states and Canada with his wife.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Irene; sons, John Richard Byrd of Maryville, TN, David Alan Byrd of Benton, KY, and Thomas Dale Byrd of Madison; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; cousin, Ruth Hazelwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Madison United Methodist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow at the church with Rev. Larry Wright officiating. There will be a private family burial.
