Lonnie Walker Byrd, Sr., 87 of Fayetteville, TN, passed away at home on May 24, 2022 surrounded by family.
He was born December 18, 1934, in Big Cove, AL, to Eunice Clark and Katherine Elizabeth Bird.
Lonnie Proudly served in the United States Air Force. He later joined the Huntsville Fire Department serving with over 35 years before retiring as Captain of Station 11.
He was a man of strong spiritual belief, who was an example for his whole family. He always put God and his family first.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life Emma Jean, who after only knowing for 2 weeks were married 61 years. He is also preceded by his parents, E.C and Katherine Bird; brothers, John Gussie Bird, Winfred Byrd, Philip Bird, Virgil; sisters, Gracie Bird, Ines Baker, Lois Guffey, Ore Mae Maynard, Ruth Martin, And Kathleen Chaffin.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelia Byrd Terrell (Charles) of Fayetteville, TN; Son, Lonnie Walker Byrd Jr. (Lisa) of Huntsville, AL; sister, Cannie Gross of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren: Dee Hommerding (Kenn) of Flintville, TN, Charles Terrell Jr. (Shelley) of Fayetteville, TN, Ashton Hale (Derrick) of Hazel Green, AL; great grandchildren, Katelyn Payne, Maddie Payne, Caroline Terrell, Lili Terrell, Corey Hommerding, and Tyler Hommerding (Hannah); great great granddaughter, Lela Mae Hommerding.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. The Chapel service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday May 27, 2022. Burial will be at Neals Chapel Cemetery in Big Cove, AL.
