Funeral Services for Mr. James Henry Odom, age 85 of Ashland, will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Bro. Steve Robertson and Sister Alice Watts officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland City Cemetery.

Mr. Odom passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Clay County Hospital. Mr. Odom was born in Treutlen County, Georgia and lived in the surrounding area for around 25 years. After marrying his wife, Evelyn, they moved around the United States and providences while James worked for telecommunications companies, such as Verizon, as a cable splicer. Mr. Odom worked in Michigan, Louisiana, Puerto Rico, California and everywhere in between. He helped build the telecommunications infrastructure into what it is today. Once he retired at 65, he spent most of his time outdoors on his farm. His most passionate project involved turned 40 acres of land from what was originally swamp land, into a beautiful pasture and a lake. He owned every kind of farm animal, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and horseback riding with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church.

Mr. Odom is survived by his children: Tammey Burchfield (Steven) of Lineville and Tommy Lee Odom (Tammi) of Deatsville; 6 grandchildren: Brandon McVey (Amanda), Brandi Haynes (Chris), J.T. Odom (Jessica), Joshua Odom (Kati), Annabelle Odom, and Thomas R.L. Odom Jr.; 8 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Kay Milligan of Nolensville, TN; his special friend, Sister Alice Watts of Ashland; along with a host of extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas Edmon and Lilly Mae Criswell Odom; his wife, Evelyn Johnson Odom; one son, Rex Odom; one granddaughter, Windy Zarrabal; one sister, Joyce Harbin; two brothers: Neron “Cotton” and Thomas “Tom” Maeward Odom; and his son-in-law, Michael McVey.

Active Pallbearers will be Brandon McVey, J.T. Odom, Joshua Odom, Gabe Hancock, Adrian Odom, and Zach Odom.

His visitation will take place on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 12:30 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
