Nellie Ruth Hovater, age 80, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Ruth was retired from H.D. Lee. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. One of her granddaughters remembers the fun times spent with Mamaw Ruth and says having her as a grandmother was a true blessing. She was a beautiful, amazing woman who never had anything bad to say about anyone or anything.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 60 years, Freddy Hovater; children, Penny Hovater Washington (Sammie), Chuck Hovater (Rita Wright); grandchildren, Rachel Pickett, Meagan Williamson, Amber Doty, Kala Hovater; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Caudle; brothers, Glen Witt, Paul Witt, Larry Witt; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dearl & Zelia Louise (Purvis) Witt; and two brothers, James & Carl Witt.
The visitation will be 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. James McCullar officiating the service. Burial will be at Gravel Hill Cemetery in the Mt. Star Community.
The pallbearers will be the family and friends.
