Shirley Haney – Obituary

Funeral for Shirley Haney, 73, of Athens will be today, February 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Tanner United Methodist Church with Bro. David Nelson and Harold McKee officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Haney, who died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Athens Rehabilitation Center, was born September 1, 1939, in Benton, Ky., to Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Haney. He was a lifelong farmer and tractor puller. He was a partner of Haney Farms and a Mason. Mr. Haney was a member of Tanner United Methodist Church, Limestone Farmers Co-Op Board, National Tractor Puller Association (NTPA), Mid-South Pullers, and Tanner Quarterback Club.

Mr. Haney is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte Hasting Haney; one son, Keith Haney and wife, Sonda, of Athens; one daughter, Vicki Haney Lawson and husband, Grover Lawson III of Sardis, Miss.; one brother, Horace Haney and wife, Beverly, of Athens; two sisters, Debra Gooch and husband, Dwight, of Athens and Hilda Sinclair of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Hannah Lawson Peters and husband, Ben, of Birmingham, Cody Haney and wife, Tiffinee of Athens, Julie Katherine Lawson of Oxford, Miss., Skyler Haney Lawson of Sardis, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James Paul Schrimsher, Darryl Norman, Matthew Haney, Dwight Gooch, Allen Brown, Lynn Dowland, Cody Haney, Skyler Lawson, Ben Peters, Daniel Bates and Brandon Shemwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Malone, H.L. King, Jimmy Newby and Billy Baine.

Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
