Gary A. Dunston, 75, of Rainbow City, Alabama passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, surrounded by family following a long illness. A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Williams Southside Memorial Park. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements. The family will accept friends from 11:00AM until 12:30PM at the funeral home on Wednesday. All guest in attendance are required to wear mask during the visitation.

Gary was an avid golfer and loved nothing more than being on the golf course with his friends and family. Gary was recognized as an extremely good man who always greeted his friends with a smile. As a young, widowed father, Gary coached his son’s youth football team and was so well regarded, even years later young men would approach “Coach Gary” letting him know how much they enjoyed being part of his team. Being an extremely humble person, he often underestimated the impact he had on the lives of people around him. This impact was probably felt the most by his son Joe, who Gary felt was his “life’s greatest accomplishment”.

Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie Otwell Dunston; and later, second wife, Wanda Terrell Dunston; brother, John Wayne Dunston; and sister, Patricia Rose.

Gary is survived by his wife of twelve years, Sherry Dunston; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Laura Dunston; granddaughters, Kaitlin Earnhardt and Allie Dunston. Gary also enjoyed time with Sherry’s son, Ragan Lonnergan, his wife Keri, and their son Davis whom he very much enjoyed watching play baseball.

Pallbearers will be C.B. Willmore, Robert Eubanks, Mike Roden, Frank Roden, Eddie Skaggs, and Butch Brown.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord shall give me that day.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Cherry Street Baptist Church.
