Johnny Reed Edmonds, a lifelong resident of Guntersville, passed away Tuesday, February 8th. He was 72 years old.
Mr. Edmonds was the only child of O’neal and Mildred Edmonds. He was a 1967 graduate of Marshall County High School and attended Snead State for two years.
Mr. Edmonds married the former Sheridan Elrod in 1969. He worked at Revere in Scottsboro, before devoting the last 40 plus years of his life working for Whitaker Contracting until his death. One of Johnny’s greatest joys was the relationships that he built and treasured with the people that worked for and with him.
He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and on several different committees. Mr. Edmonds loved his church family.
Mr. Edmonds is survived by his wife, Sheridan; his daughter, Jill Chandler (Bart); two grandchildren, Reed Chandler (Katie) and Ross Chandler; one great grandchild, Frances Chandler; and his mother, Mildred Edmonds.
He was preceded in death by his father, O’neal Edmonds.
A funeral service was held Friday at the Guntersville Memorial Chapel with his son-in-law, Bart Chandler, Reed Chandler, Ross Chandler and Bro. Chuck Knight officiating.
Pallbearers were Reed Chandler, Ross Chandler, David Reed, Lynn Selvage, Brother Whitaker, Whit Reed, Jim Reed, Donald Gray, and Paul Smitherman. Burial was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Guntersville Memorial Chapel directing.
