Mrs. Mildred Clara Whitman Diggs, age 87, of Glencoe, Alabama passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022. Funeral Services will be held of Friday, January 28, 2022 at 2:00pm at Collier-Butler Chapel. Rev. Tim Diggs and Rev. Larry Brooks will officiate. Burial will be held at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Collier-Butler Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Diggs was a native of Etowah County, she attended Etowah High School and was a graduate of the Gadsden State Nursing Program. She retired from Gadsden Regional Medical Center after 35 years of service as a registered nurse. After retirement, she moved to Pensacola, Florida and she served many years working with home health before returning to Glencoe, Alabama. Mrs. Diggs was a member of Heath Baptist Church. She was a huge cat lover and never turned away a stray. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lee Diggs; daughter, Karen Lynn Diggs; 4 great grandchildren; and her parents Cecil and Mattie Whitman.
Mrs. Diggs is survived by her daughter, Lee Ann (Charlie Vaughn) Diggs; sons, Tim (Phyllis) Diggs, and Bill Diggs; sister, Judy (Earl) Oaks; Grandchildren, Becky (Jason) Mahannah, Josh (Karen) Billingsley, Haley Billingsley, Heather (Dylan) Hartmann, Jennifer Diggs, Catherine Diggs, and Jessica (Ryan) Dillard. 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Special friends, Vickie Brown and Claudette Wagnon.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bill Brannan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local Animal Shelter.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
