Oswald Spurgeon Costner, age 92, of Gadsden, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. The family will receive friends at Union Hill United Methodist Church Friday, January 14, 2022, from 11 until noon, followed by the funeral service at 12pm. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor Tom Laile will officiate. Collier Butler Funeral Home will direct the service. Mr. Costner was a lifetime resident of Etowah County and a graduate of Gaston High School. He had retired from LTV Steel Plant. He was a member of Union Hill United Methodist Church. Having grown up working with his father doing auto upholstering, Os was a classic car enthusiast. He loved to talk with others and tell “Steel Plant stories”.He loved his family and was a great example of what a husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather should be. He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Sue Costner, whom he affectionately referred to as Hon; parents Houston and Beulah Costner; sister Virginia “Ginny” Chaffin; and brothers-in-law Frank Chaffin and Wayne Logan. He is survived by his son Michael Costner, daughter-in-law Carol Costner; grandchildren Lucas, Seth, Caitlin, and Chloe Costner; great granddaughter Amelia Costner; sister-in-law Catherine Logan many nieces, nephews, cousins; and many special friends Janice Gunter, Gary and Betty Perry, Tom and Joan Batson, and Lester Thacker to name a few. Pallbearers will be Michael, Lucas, and Seth Costner, Lester Thacker, Rick Simmons, and Dave Hofland.
